GET busy at this year’s TET Taranaki Masters Games this week. There are an enormous number of sports to get involved with, so join up and have a ball!

THE 2010 TET Taranaki Masters Games will be held in the TET area from March 25-28, and this year there’s an increase in the number of sports on offer.
For the 2010 event there are 30 sports on offer. These include basketball, darts, football, golf, swimming, squash, mountain biking and tramping with a newly introduced event being dog agility.
“We have plenty of options for people who want to compete in their chosen sport or try something new just for the fun of it,” says Masters Games chairman, Ann Moore.
“Whether you are a new competitor, a returning participant or a much appreciated supporter, the committee hope you enjoy the games and meeting other people who are here for fun and sports.”
During the games, Stratford will play host to a number of events.
The Stratford Club will be hosting indoor bowls, darts, pool and snooker competitions, while the TET MultiSports Centre will be hosting indoor rowing, netball, petanque, volleyball and Texas Holdem Poker.
Cycling will be run from the Midhirst Tavern, golf from the Stratford Golf Club, pistol shooting from the Egmont Pistol Club in Douglas, running and walking from the Stratford Racecourse, swimming from the TSB Pool, table tennis in Scout and Guide Hall, tramping from the War Memorial Hall car park, and Western Riding from the Stratford Showground.

“Sport Taranaki really enjoy organising this event and seeing the variety of sports that are being offered,” Sport Taranaki CEO, Howie Tamati says.
“It would be great if we can continue to add new sports each year and grow the event even further.”
There is the misconception that the Masters Games are for a certain age group but in fact there are some sports on offer for those over the age of 25 with most being for people over the age of 30, says Howie.
“There literally is something for everyone over the age of 25 to get involved in. This event is not just for the stereotypical masters of sport!”
These games are the ideal opportunity for people to set and reach personal goals while having fun competing against friends, family or workmates.
“We get the regular Masters Games participants,” says Howie.
“But, each year we try and increase the number of participants by highlighting that the event is fun, affordable and a great opportunity to get involved in a community event with friends and family.”
Late registrations can still be accepted so to get involved either contact Sport Taranaki on 0800 Active or go to the TET Taranaki Masters Games page at www.sporttaranaki.org.nz to download the relevant registration forms.
