Stratford Golf
IN fine but cool conditions last Saturday, G Kelly held off T Cawley to win the final of the Spedding Cup. Kel was 3 up with 5 to play but lost the next 3 to be back to square. He recovered to win the 17th to go one up and held on with a nett 4 at the last for a one up win.
T Johnson headed off T Kelsen to win the Senior section of the Captains Trophy and P Shearer beat M McDonald in the Junior Section. These two play off in the final.
The rest of the members enjoyed a two man Ambrose event, and 22 pairs participated. The winning score was the nett 57.7 of K Sullivan and C Meredith, ahead of M Cook/J Chittenden’s 60, W Dymond/T Cooksley and R Jacobs/C Kearvell’s 60.3 and J Cusdin/H Morton and J Erwood/M Petford’s 60.7.
This week we will have another team event, a Four Ball Best Ball stableford round, where two players play as partners, but each player playing their own ball. You record the best stableford of the pair for each hole.
And we might make it you can’t have the same partner as last week.
This will be our last warm up before the Championships start on August 7.

Eltham Golf
GREAT conditions have led to some excellent scores in the past two weeks of golf in Eltham.
Bruce Campbell and Haki Graham dominated the scoring two weeks ago with 43 stableford points to share honours for the day.
Wayne Hart was next on 42 points, and was followed by Keith Stanners (41), Roger Lawrence (40) and Chad and Paul Daymond (both 39).
Twos were scored by M Boland (7th), L Williams (7th) and Wayne Hart (5th and 12th).
Last Sunday’s haggle was won in emphatic style by Wendy Burnand, with 46 points, to head off Colin Willshaw (42) with Wayne Boyes, Mat Pease and Keith Stanners next on 41.
Michael Boland (40 points), Haki Graham and Michael Frederickson (both 39) rounded out the leaderboard.
Two’s were scored by M Boland (17th) and Craig Johnson (7th & 15th).
This weekend is the first round of the Strokeplay Championships with play in three divisions. Michael Boland and Colin Willshaw look in good form to successfully defend their 2009 titles in the senior and junior champs, while the intermediate title will be up for grabs with Jason Nightingale not defending last year’s title.
There will be a nett haggle for all players.
