Flyers success in Melbourne

THE Flyers swimming squad has just returned to Stratford after tasting victory at a recent Australian swimming meet. 
Julian Weir, Ryan Cooper and Dylan Arlidge scored a variety of awards at the five-day Victoria State Age Group Swimming Championships held in Melbourne recently.
Weir won gold in the 100m backstroke with a Taranaki record time of 1m03s55 and his 50m split time of 30s72 also set a new 50m backstroke record.
In the 100m freestyle, Weir went under the minute in the heats time, coming fifth with a Taranaki record time. He was ranked sixth in the 200m medley, sixth in the 200m backstroke, tenth in the 200m freestyle time and twelfth in the 400m freestyle.
Ryan Cooper won silver in the 200m backstroke with a variety of Taranaki record and personal best times. He ranked fourth in the 100m backstroke, eighth in the 400m freestyle and twelfth in the 15yrs and under 1500m freestyle; clocking-up personal best times in the 100m and 200m freestyle.
Dylan Arlidge swam personal best times in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, 100m and 200m freestyle, 100m and 200m butterfly, 200m backstroke, 200m medley and 400m freestyle, qualifying in some of these events for the national age group competitions to be held in Christchurch in March 2010.
