Flyers excel at national meet

FLYERS swim squad had six boys qualify for the National Age Group swimming championships in Christchurch last week.

The successful athletes were Adrian Pitman (16), Brock Wilson (16), Tomas Arlidge (16), Julian Weir (14), Dylan Arlidge (13) and Ryan Cooper (13). They were among 602 swimmers aged 13-18 battling it out in the pool.

Ryan Cooper took a gold medal in the 200m backstroke, a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke and another bronze in the 1500m freestyle.

Dylan Arlidge won bronze in the 200m breaststroke, placed 9th in the 400m medley final and 4th 100m breaststroke final.

Julian Weir won silver in the 100m backstroke, and bronze in the 50m backstroke and 200m backstroke. He also swam the backstroke leg in the 15yrs and under 4 x 50m medley relay final in the Taranaki team.

Tomas Arlidge was placed 6th in the 200m breaststroke final and 10th in the 100m breaststroke.

Brock Wilson placed 7th in the 400m medley final. 9th in the 200m breaststroke final, and 10th in the 50m butterfly.

This week Brooke Wells and Sophie Cooksley will compete at the NZ Division Two swimming Champs in Wellington over five Days.
