THE Taranaki tribal rugby league tournament kicked off last Saturday with Whakaahurangi (Stratford) taking on Ngati Te Whiti (New Plymouth). Stratford won the game 14-12.
Team member Loni Ward says the team has three home games over the eight-week tournament, and he’s urging supporters and interested folk to go along to games and support the team.
“Come along and support the local lads who are playing – since we are representing Stratford. There’s no cost to come and watch.”
He says Whakaahurangi has been part of the tournament for the past four seasons and has a good strong team this year.  There’s a shield at stake as well as pride for the winners.
People who are interested in playing for the team can go along to practices sessions at the Paige St field on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm.
