The Mount Egmont 4WD Club's January 13 rally at Ngaere/Pukengahu is officially the biggest rally to be held in New Zealand.

Rally co-ordinator Grant Squire confirmed he has received 96 paid entries from teams, which include all the 2006 overall and class champions and this year's points leaders.

"Our Mt Egmont Club-hosted events have always proved popular with national competitors," said Grant.

"We don't know if it's our great weather, the excellent prizes on offer or the terrifying terrain we have here, but whatever it is we'll take more of it!"

The day begins at 8.30am and spectators will find a well signposted route to the venue from Cheal Road off State Highway 3.

The event will be shown on TV3 and Suzuki New Zealand will launch their sponsorship of the television programme at the rally.

"We really want to showcase both the event and our province on TV so we need plenty of banners and signs from local clubs and businesses to brighten up the background."
