The Taranaki Sporting Trials Car Club hosted the W.R Twigg Tarata Cup Sporting Trial on Saturday which doubled as the STNZ points round final.

Conditions were wet and slippery which required a lot of throttle control to prevent wheelspin on the steep hills.

Sid Hirst from Inglewood held off strong competition from the team of Brad Horgan and Kirsten Landers also of Inglewood all day, and was leading until the last section when the vehicle slid off the steep hillside course giving the lead to Horgan who drove faultlessly all day.

The possition for third changed several times during the day between the team of Mike Webber / Kerry Hogan and Mac Yeates / Daniel Inglis however briliant driving by Steven Bridger (Inglewood) on the last round split the two with Mike Webber (New Plymouth) gaining third place overall.

Inglewood built SIDCO, Honda powered Sporting Trials cars took the top 3 placings.

The team of Steven Bridger / Patrick Adams scored a well deserved 1st place in the B grade dispite strong competition from two Waikato drivers Kevin Silverwood who was placed second and the husband and wife team of Joe and Marina Fulton third.

Taranaki drivers also featured well in the C Grade with James Hogan taking out first place followed by Philip Old second and Kerry Hogan third.

Second place for Hirst was enough to secure first overall in the New Zealand Championship rounds followed by last years champion Brad Horgan and third place went to Mac Yeates also of Inglewood.

Fourth place for Steven Bridger secured him third place overall in the B Grade New Zealand Championships.

C Grade New Zealand Championship overall placeings were 1st James Hogan, 2nd Philip Old and third Kerry Hogan.

Sunday saw the annual "Taranaki Vs the Rest" event held in very wet muddy conditions which required full throttle to get as much wheelspin and bit as possable to climb the rough muddy courses.

Taranaki won the event by a small margin with 386 points lost compared to 400 for the rest of the country.

Mike Webber from New Plymouth was in top form to take out first place with the Automatic SIDCO car, managing to find grip where others were failing.

Sid Hirst was placed second with Brad Horgan third.

A special thanks must go the land owners Alan and Dot Enright (Saturday) and Bryan and Helen Hocken (Sunday) and also the Observers (many from the Taranaki Car Club) for standing out the rain on both days.
