THE Stratford Primary School hall was like a Moroccan market last Wednesday with senior students shouting out to buy their wares, a big screen loudly advertising their products and the milling throng of the rest of the school. The occasion was the fifth ‘Build a Business’ expo, whereby Year 7 and 8 students formed 27 teams, came up with a product to make and sell, made business plans, and then set about selling to other students and parents.
The teams make sample products and the school looks at their business plans and lends some of them funding to create their product.
The teams then take orders and manufacture the product.
There was a wide range of goods on sale last week – from sweets and art works to decorated drink bottles.
The aim of the project, which is unique to Stratford Primary, is to teach skills such as maths, budgeting, business and working with money.
Money raised from selling the products will go towards a senior trip and charity.
