Success for Flyers

MOUNTAIN Motors Flyers had six swimmers qualify for the national short course swimming championships at the BayFair pool, Mt Manganui over four days.

The meet attracted over 200 swimmers competing in the 15-years-and-under and 16-years-and-over open events. The standard of the meet was extremely high with 42 national age group records broken, the biggest number of national age group records in one meet ever recorded.

Taranaki swimmers broke 10 Taranaki records, with Ashley Rupapera (16) taking two in the 16-and-over girls the 100m breaststroke, and the 200m breaststroke.

Ashley was top 16-and-over girl in all three breaststroke events and swam a personal best time in the 100m butterfly. Brock Wilson (15) was outstanding in achieving all personal best times in his events, making the final in the 100m butterfly.

In the 200m butterfly, he took seven seconds off his previous time and took other personal best times in the 100m medley, 200m breaststroke, and the 400m, 200m, 100m and 50m freestyle.
