Stratford residents are being to told to fill water bottles and conserve water as Stratford's main water line is shut down overnight for emergency maintenance. File

From tonight, Monday 17 December 2012, from 8.00 pm until 6.00 am Tuesday 18 December 2012 Stratford's main water line will be shut down resulting in little to no water to any one connected to the Stratford water supply.

Residents are being asked to conserve water by not using appliances during the shutdown period.

For any drinking water required during the shutdown period please fill water bottles before 8.00pm today.

This urgent maintenance is due to damages to the main line causing leaking and the possibility of rupturing the line, the Stratford District Council's only option is to turn off the water supply allowing time to fix the problem.

Once the water is back on from 6.00 am tomorrow it may be discoloured in some areas of town.

Local residents are advised to run the water until any discolouration has disappeared and the water is running clear again.

Stratford District Council apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. For any queries please contact the council on  (06) 765 6099 .
