Stratford High School won the Taita College Sports Exchange and were honoured with the Collins Challenge Cup. For as long as the schools can remember, Stratford High School has had an annual sports exchange with Wellington's Taita College. Every year, one school will travel to the other for fierce competition, re-uniting friendships and of course, to play a great game. This year was no different, with Wellington making the journey with their First XV rugby team, boys' and girls' hockey teams and their debating team. Stratford proved tough competition, winning all four matches. A highlight of the exchange was the rugby. Stratford won the match 29-7. Tries came from Ryan Rooney, BJ Bland, Adrian Chubb and two tries for William Cooper. Oliver Radich made two conversions. Taita's try scorer was Dylan Ratana, with the conversion by Thomas Kiwara. The Collins Cup The Collins Challenge Cup was gifted to both schools by Una Haverfield, who has connections with both schools. Una was head girl of Stratford High School in 1953 and her late husband Colin Harrison was head boy in 1952 and 1953. During the 1960s and 70s the couple lived in Stokes Valley and through Kamahi School, which was then Taita Intermediate, Una was a member of the Hutt Valley and New Zealand Parent Teacher Association. Una also had grandchildren who attended Taita College.
