Clubs New Zealand held their 40th annual North Island Men's Golf Teams Tournament at the Shandon Golf Club on November 10-11. This year the hosts were the Petone Workingmen's Club and the field consisted of 70 teams of three players each. Another 300 golfers playing in the supporters' tournaments at the Hutt and Wainuiomata Golf Clubs made for over 500 players - one of New Zealand's largest organised tournaments.

The Stratford club team comprising Dick Vanner, Graeme Sayers and Grant Kite won the Rangitikei Cup for the best team's gross score over the two rounds of the tournament. They also finished third overall in the nett competition. This is the first time that a Taranaki chartered club has won the Gross Cup. They broke new ground for Taranaki with their efforts, showing great perseverance under very trying conditions.

Next year, the tournament will be hosted by the South Taranaki Club at the Te Ngutu Golf Course in November.
