National and Taranaki records fell at the Bay Of Plenty open short course swimming championships held in the Bay Wave 10- lane 25m pool at Mt Maunganui over the weekend.

Ashley Rupapera in the 14yr girls 200m Breaststroke achieved her third national record in the age group with an outstanding swim in the 200m Breaststroke in a time of 2.35.94, lowering the record of Olympic swimmer Annabelle Carey's Canterbury time of 2.36.14. Ashley was named swimmer of the meet for overall performance for the second consecutive time. The squad achieved seven Taranaki records, 15 gold, 19 silver and 11 bronze.

Jackson Arlidge, 16yrs was the first swimmer in Taranaki to swim under 1 minute in the 100m Backstroke record time 59.47 lowering Jared Eagar's time of 1.00.36 set in 1995. His outstanding 200m Butterfly time of 2.12.85 lowered David Haydon's time of 2.16.58 (set in 2001). In the 50m Backstroke time of 28.16 he lowered David Riley's time of 28.37. All previous record holders are past Flyers swimmers.

Julian Weir, 11yrs, 50m backstroke time 34.72 own 35.09. 50m Breaststroke 41.12 lowered Edward Rawles, Bell Block, time of 41.14.
