QUARTER horses from the far north of the North Island and the far south of the South Island will gather this week in Hawera at the TSB Indoor Arena at the Egmont A&P; grounds with owners, riders and supporters in tow.

Competition begins Wednesday afternoon and runs until Saturday afternoon, beginning with English classes Wednesday and finishing with the Cutting Competition later on Saturday.

The Quarter Horse is used in many riding disciplines including English, Western, Rodeo and Cutting. The Quarter Horse is known to have a quiet teachable nature, but is also very agile on its feet and very good at working cattle both on farms or ranches, and in competitions.

The Quarter Horse Registry is the largest horse registry in the world with over five million registered.

The judge for the English on Wednesday is Taranaki Judge: Brenda Bellringer and for the remaining events is American Lisa Krohn from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

She has judged many world shows and is an accomplished western pleasure and working hunter rider.
