TARANAKI Alpine Cliff Rescue received a huge financial boost earlier this month, thanks to the co-ordination efforts of Stratford’s Peaker Project.
At a special early morning presentation on Friday, May 7 held at the Peaker Project, the trust was presented with a cheque for $10,000, along with two mountain rescue hats and climbing ropes from NZ Safety.
“We held a whip-round with our main site contractors and managed to raise $10,000,” says site construction manager, Andy Thomason.
“They were enormously generous in their support for the Taranaki Alpine Cliff Rescue Trust.”
“We have the spectacular Mount Taranaki as a site backdrop and numerous volunteers of the Alpine Cliff Rescue work on our site. Thus, we felt it a fitting tribute to this organisation that they receive this sizeable donation.”
According to Andy, the trust will use the funding to keep up-to-date with equipment, as well as contribute to general ongoing costs such as the training of volunteers.
Present at the presentation were a group of local veterans who had built and operated the previous Stratford Thermal Power Station.
“These veterans were given a tour of the power station, and then attended a question and answer session. They were then refreshed with tea and scones in the canteen before leaving with a site information package,” says Andy.
