Mayor pushes for shed to go

The vandalised property.
The vandalised property.

Stratford mayor Neil Volzke is on the war path to get the vandalised gardener's shed at the old Stratford Hospital site demolished.

"The building has been totally vandalised and wrecked and should be demolished. Stratford police have raised their concerns with me. In its current state of disrepair the building has become a haunt for street kids and vagrants."

He says the building is beyond repair, smashed completely inside with every wall panel and fitting in small pieces.

"Smashed glass are everywhere. A fire has been lit inside the building and the damage is obvious."

A neighbour reports that street kids and vagrants are regularly in the building, especially at night, he adds.

"It is only a matter of time before a serious incident of some sort occurs there. The building needs to be removed"

He has been in contact with the company managing the property, Darroch Properties in Wellington, who indicated that demolish the building is being considered.

Darroch responded to the Stratford Press' enquiry seeking information, but by deadline details were still unavailable.
