On Friday night in Eltham  town hall the atmosphere was electric as 12 sconetestants, including South Taranaki Mayor Ross Dunlop, battled it out for the crown of  Master Scone 2010.
Masterchef Brett MacGregor and his mum Annette were the chief judges in what compere Gordon Gray-Lockhart described as a piece of vicious plagiarism, and a crazy  mix of Pop Idol, Master Chef and Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
Before a crowd of 200 the 12 contestants, the majority of whom were dressed in a variety of interesting costumes, mixed for all their lives were worth to produce a scone worthy of being judged.
After much hilarity and a few toys being thrown, Team Hopson, consisting of Candy Hopson and her daughter Payton, took away first prize at an evening proclaimed a huge success by all.
