Locals off to represent NZ

Local men Bruce Reichardt and Brian Williams are gearing up to represent New Zealand at a major sawing and woodchopping competition in Wanganui next week.

The pair will be competing in the over-70s category at the Trans-Tasman Tri Series, part of the Masters Games at the Powerco Games Village.

With years of experience under their belts, the pair are confident in their abilities but are always wary of their Australian counterparts.

"We have been working together for 12 years, and Bruce has been involved in the sport for 57 years so we hope that gives us a bit of advantage over the Aussies, they are tough competition!" they said.

Bruce and Brian have competed in several veterans' tournaments together and have travelled to Adelaide for competitions, so they hope that this will be enough to come out tops at the event.

"We practise a fair bit and work well together, and are looking forward to the games and want to put on a performance to make everyone proud."
