MORE than 500 cyclist from across the country competed.

STRATFORD'S Brett Tivers was the first cyclist home in the 180km ride in the annual Round the Mountain Cycle Ride on Saturday.

Brett raced home with an impressive time of 4 hours and 34 minutes.

Blair James from Auckland was the first rider home in the 150km race, with a time of 4 hours and 7 minutes.

Kaytee Boyd from the North Shore, closely followed by Brei Gudsell from Wanganui, were the first two women riders to cross the finish line.

Between $13-15,000 has been raised to support the velodrome being constructed at a new cycle park in Bell Block.

Orgnaisers said entries were up by 20 per cent from last year's race and help from the Stratford, Hawera and New Plymouth Cycle Clubs made the entire event run smoothly.
