Rob Sturmer and Jack Jeffares, caught by surprise, received the honour from past district governor Ray Lawrence.

The fellowship is the highest award for Lions Members and recognised their dedicated service to the club for almost 50 years. Rob joined in 1964 and Jack in 1965 and they are still a very active club members.

Jack says he never endeavoured to be recognised, but just "got on with it". "You just do what you are suppose to do, and stick with it."

Rob says the gesture will be treasured.

Stratford president Trudy Sullivan says the club is proud to have served the district for the past 50 years.

"Every day local community-minded people have been part of the organisation which has supported countless groups and individuals to achieve their goals. We thank the local community for its support and in particular local businesses that have generously sponsored our fundraising efforts. We look forward to continued service to the community."
