Jersey breeders busy around the country

Action in Mangatoki
THE 39th annual Purebred Jersey Sale took place at the Revell Family Partnership in Managatoki recently.
There was good attendance from a number of keen buyers from around New Zealand, with the average in-calf heifer price around $1535, while stud yearling bulls averaged at around $1500.
For in-calf heifers, the top price paid was $3100 for Beledene Del’s Monica. This well-balanced heifer showing good udder development from the Beledene Tan’s Moonlight family went to the bid of Malcolm Barr, joining his $6000 Centennial Oaks Heifer, Metuas Tri Moonshine who descends from the same tree.
The next best price of $3050 went to the stylish, quality heifer Beledene Top Valencia, from a full sister to the present ‘glamour cow,’ Beledene Star Virginia VHC 94 Supreme Champion.  She went to the call of Stu Davidson from Westland, for his Fern Valley Stud.
Another outstanding heifer joining her at Fern Valley was Beledene Del’s Starlet; best described as a heifer with ‘a magnificent udder formation.’ $3000 was what was paid.
After numerous successes with Hasty River cattle over the years, regular client David Thompson of Matamata was back again to select only the best from Mangatoki.
His selection for an in-calf heifer was HR Dan Remember; a quality heifer from maternal sister to HR For Royalty VHC 94, HR Future Rivo VHC 85 (a granddaughter of Brookvale Revel’s Grant). For her, he paid $2700.
Another outstanding heifer through the ring was HR Lu Rayon, a direct daughter of HR For Royalty VHC 94. This noted show champion went to the call of Paul Vanner of Kapuni for $1800; Paul’s another client who has had tremendous success with HR cattle.
Other sales included HR Dan Desire ($1700) to J Schiniger of Te Aroha, HR Dan Brownie ($1550) to B Thompson of Te Awamutu, and HR Lyn Mandy ($1500) to P&C Vanner of Kapuni. Top in the yearling bull section was the Glenvue Stud bid of $1050 for HR Lu Bellamy from Big Hollow’s Omen’s Bell VHC CP family.
A well-bred bull in HR Lyn Rocketman by promising sire, HR Double Lyden from HR Rocky Regal also found a new home in the Truday Stud of the Muggeridge family.
Matamata jersey sale
THE Golden Oak Purebred Jersey sale held earlier this month in Matamata proved to be a busy one for vendors, I&R Smith.
It was a buoyant sale throughout, with Koroglen studmaster, Stev Levo Rai Valley the main buyer and taking home eight well-bred heifers, going for between $1500 and $3900.
A couple of striking heifers came down to the Truday Stud of the Muggeridge Family in Ngaere. Both were by the exceptionally top breeding sire, Beledene Bright Leon; one took the bidding to $1450.
The other heifer that came to grace Truday’s pastures was from GO Lee’s Candy VHC 94 family; a heifer showing exceptional udder development and going to the call at $1400.
Another heifer that came to Taranaki was GO Grant’s Casey It was knocked down to $1100.
The top-priced yearling bull was GO Vee’s Monzy; it went to Koroglen at $2100.
