FOR children and their families living with the daily challenges of childhood heart disease the difference between a good day and a bad day can often come down to the really small things; getting some answers, advice, a helping hand, a chance to offload with someone who understands.
May 23-29 marks Heart Children Week, a week where Heart Children NZ and communities around New Zealand join together to help heart children and their families.
A special invitation is being extended to Stratford locals to come to a memorial service for Heart Children Angels
A service in remembrance of the angels who have lost their battle against their heart condition is to be held at the Pioneer Village Chapel on Sunday, May 30, 2010 from 2pm.In the past, few children born with a heart defect could expect to survive past their teenage years.
Due to medical and surgical advances there are now more adults living with a congenital heart defect than children; it’s a world first.
However, despite increased longevity, congenital heart youth and adults face lifelong health concerns, psychological, social and lifestyle issues.
“Every day the number of children and families affected by childhood heart disease grows,” says Heart Children NZ CEO Lara Syddall.
“For many their heart condition will be a life long challenge. At Heart Children we are committed to meeting the needs of children, youth and heart adults and their families throughout their life’s journey.
“Your support of Heart Children Week will mean better days, a better outcome.”
