Guilty plea in car death hearing

Nadia McCullough last week pleaded guilty in the Hawera District Court for driving the car her friend, John Stone, was killed in when it hit a power pole near the Pioneer Village outside Stratford in June.

She is charged with being in charge of a motor vehicle causing death and injury. Drink driving charges were dropped following issues with the blood sample taken at the Taranaki Base Hospital.

John's sister, Shyanne, told the Stratford Press they are very distressed about the blood sample, saying her daughter, Shynequa, 3, and John's five-year-old son, Tyrese, miss their uncle and dad. "I am still very angry about it. I do not wish this on anybody. It is something that should not have happened. It just is not right."

The case has been remanded for sentencing on October 10.
