THE MOUNTAIN Motors Flyers Swim Squad had a successful night at the Bell Block Swim Meet on Saturday. An incredible 560 entries were received, providing strong competition in all age groups with Flyers featuring in all the finals. Three Taranaki swimming records were lowered by two 11-year-old Flyers squad members. Stratford's Julian Weir broke two records. In the 100m backstroke he lowered a long standing record previously held by former squad mate David Riley in 1996, with a time of 1.11.83, Julian's time was 1.11.55. Julian also lowered his own record in the 50m backstroke event. His previous time was 34.70s, his new time 34.03s. Squad mate Cale Karanga, lowered Julian's 50m breaststroke record of 41.12s, Cales time was 40.90s.
