SOFT ground conditions but fine weather was the order of the day for the second round of the Strokeplay Championships last Saturday. Best round in the Senior division was the 75 of T Sullivan, and he moves up into 4th, 7 off the lead. B Gibson takes a 5 shot lead over K Rai and T Cawley into the final round this weekend.Best score in the Intermediates was the 77 of B Wood, who takes over the lead by 1 from L Eagar,  and 2 ahead of T Johnson and B Gibbons.In the Juniors, H Morton’s 84 was the best round, and he now trails leader B Swindlehurst by 2.  Next are G Kelly and G Radich, 7 off the pace.Results of the day’s nett competitions were: Senior - T Sullivan 67, B Gibson, T Cawley 75. Ladies Golf
THE last round of the Weekend Top Cat competition was played last Saturday with Jenny Oien and Jill Evans maintaining their form by winning their final match. Results were: Jenny and Jill 10 points, Diana de Jong and Sheryl Stanners 9 points, followed by Ann Braithwaite and Vivian Todd and Diane Morresey and Sandra Hancock each on 6 points.
This Saturday the competition is LGU, Home Pennant combined with the last round of the Pembroke Trophy.
Our midweek members played a best nett competition last week. Vivian Todd continued her good form with a score of 99-28-71. Others close to their handicaps were Shirley Cawley 125-50-75 and Flo Coburn 109-31-78.
The first matches of the Club Championships are programmed for next Tuesday, August 31. There are, however a number of ‘ byes” in the early rounds so check the draw, which is now up in the clubrooms.
Starters for next week are Jo Vanner and Glenys Thomson.
