Fun run a great success

Hundreds participated in the annual Rotary fun run/walk.

Hundreds participated in the annual Rotary fun run/walk.

An enthusiastic group of walkers gathered at the Pukengahu Hall last Sunday to take part in the Rotary 10km walk through the farmlands and rolling countryside of the Pukengahu district. The walkers had the option of 3km, 5km or 10km stages, but all agreed the route was interesing and varied, even some parts a challenge.

Rotary thanks Murray Cross and Sam Coplestone for making their farms open to walk through, and the Pukengahu Social Club for making the hall available as a start and finish venue.

We also thank the social club for their warm and welcoming hospitality providing hotdog sausages, tea, coffee and drinks when the walk was over.

A point of interest worth reporting was the surprise the walkers had to hear a cowbell ringing in the maize as they passed by.

The Stratford businesses of Mountain Motors, Paper Plus, Perera's Paper Power, Dimocks Retravision, Masters Mitre 10, Moss, Rocard and Smith, and Mackays Pharmacy kindly donated spot prizes.

The St John Ambulance presence was very much appreciated. The walkers included two entrants from Japan and England and while the 10km was a challenge to some, everybody enjoyed the walk and voted it well worth the effort.

The Rotary Club of Stratford would like to thank everyone who contributed towards its success.
