TALENTED contemporary folk duo, Catgut and Steel are heading to Inglewood for a special concert that’s open to everyone.
Their unique performance will take place at the ‘Studio’ space above McDonald Real Estate in Inglewood on Wednesday, July 14.
The event starts at 7.30pm, and there will be an opportunity to have a jam afterwards; people are encouraged to bring voices and instruments and join in the fun.
Catgut & Steel (named for the strings on their instruments) is made up of Mike Moroney and Anna Bowen from Dunedin, who offer a repertoire that is amazingly eclectic; from Celtic tunes to contemporary covers, klezmer to country, but always with the strong vocals, harmonies and swinging rhythm styles for which they are renowned.
Material covered in a typical pub or private gig includes songs by the Pogues, Van Morrison, Sting, Dave Dobbyn, Crowded House, Bic Runga, Christy Moore, Jeff Buckley, Richard Thompson, Alison Kraus as well as many Irish, Scottish, European and American tune sets.
Always exciting and unpredictable, Mike and Anna are renowned for their ability to entertain young and old whether it be festivals, concerts, schools, wedding dances or called barn dances.
The duo has travelled extensively, playing regularly in Europe as well as around New Zealand.
The cost for the Inglewood event is $15 per head, with Under-12s free. Tea and coffee will be provided, but people should feel free to bring their own alcohol.
The concert is part of a plan to hold regular (mainly acoustic) concerts in the Studio. These concerts are to be filmed, with a long-term view being to create a series to be televised; thus creating a good view of contemporary acoustic music both in Taranaki and nationally.
