Central North Island champs top meet for flyers
FLYERS relax at the Luge after their recent swim-meet in Rotorua.
A MOUNTAIN Motors Flyers Swim Squad of twenty swimmers all had a top meet at the Central North Island Swimming Champs over Labour Weekend in Rotorua.
The meet attracted 365 competitors from across regions, creating strong competition for the Flyers team.
The 8-16-year-olds competed strongly to make 73 in the top eight finalists: 17 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze. There were 108 personal best times.
The 13-year-old relay team of Julian Weir, Dylan Arlidge, Ryan Cooper and Cale Karanga dominated the 200m freestyle and 200m medley relays, winning in 1m55s14 for the freestyle, and 2m7s86 for the medley.
In the same events for the open medley the team of Brock Wilson, Andrew Dimock, Adrian Pitman and Tomas Arlidge finished 4th, with a freestyle time of 1m46s02 and a medley time of 1m58s46.
National Age Group qualifying times were achieved by Dylan Arlidge (200m breaststroke), Julian Weir (200m medley) Ryan Cooper (50m backstroke, 100 & 200m freestyle) and Brock Wilson (100m breaststroke).
13-year-old Julian Weir’s success on the weekend places him as the top 13-year-old boy nationally .

Matthew Anderson (11): 1st – 200m medley, 100m freestyle, 50m & 200m backstroke; 2nd – 50m & 200m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly; 3rd – 200m medley.
Brittany Taylor (11): 3rd – 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly.
Julian Weir (13): 1st – 50m, 100m, 200m & 400m freestyle, 50m & 100m backstroke, 100m & 200m medley; 2nd – 200m backstroke
Ryan Cooper (13): 1st – 200m backstroke, 1500m freestyle; 3rd – 100m backstroke.
Dylan Arlidge (13): 1st – 400m medley, 200m breastroke
Cale Karanga (13): 2nd – 400m freestyle; 3rd – 50m backstroke, 50m breastroke.
Brock Wilson (16): 1st – 50m backstroke, 100m butterfly; 2nd – 50m breastroke, 100m & 200m medley, 50m freestyle.
