LOCAL fishermen Grant Johnson and John Hickmott caught a whopper of a fish - in fact the biggest the duo have ever caught.

On Friday, August 29, the pair, with their captain Tony Nichol set sail on the Maggie Rose, a 60-foot launch and headed 16 nautical miles from Westport.

Grant fought for two-and-a-half hours to catch a 260kg Blue Fin Tuna, John spent three hours catching another tuna 2kgs heavier.

Grant and John decided to then tag Grant's great catch and release him back into the sea. Pictured is the duo with John's 262kg Blue Fin Tuna.
