The combined churches of Kaponga are hosting Christmas carols at the Kaponga War Memorial Hall on December 9 at 7pm. Among the performers is Rebekah Gut (nee Hornblow), a talented vocalist and composer whose career began at 20 when the first musical she composed, Garbo of The Sky, premiered in Opunake in 2008. She has since written music for Ten Ten Theatre in the UK and composes for CPM Productions, putting New Zealand's stories on to the musical stage.

Kaponga Primary and Kaponga St Patrick's students will also perform. Steve Nicholas, one of the event organisers, says the event will be a chance for people to meet the new assistant dean for the Central Taranaki Anglican Church, the Reverend Chris Barnes. "These evenings are a special time that families can share the fun and festivities of Christmas while focusing in on what Jesus' birth means to us."
