Hercules won the gold medal in the Level 6 Hamilton City Boys Gymnastics Championships. Local gymnast Hercules Swart is on target to make the nationals, by winning gold at the Hamilton City Gymnastics Championships. Competing against some of the top gymnasts in the country, Hercules showed that his skills were equal to those being trained by overseas coaches. Hercules placed first in the floor and vault events, second place on the P bars and third on the high bar. This incredible performance gained him first place overall and another gold medal to bring back home. Tough competition from Auckland, Tauranga, Rotorua and Hamilton made the win even sweeter as Hercules won by less than 0.5 points. Coach Bronwyn Cleland said he edged the competition because of his training with girls. "Training with the girls reminds him to point his toes and keep his routines tight and tidy." Hercules has only been training with the Stratford club for a year and is currently the only male gymnast in Taranaki. Hercules is busy working towards representing Taranaki at the New Zealand Gymnastics Championships in Christchurch in September. His next competition is in three weeks in Wellington. Results The Stratford Gymnastics Club took several girls' teams to Hamilton. The following girls placed well: Louise Land placed third on the floor for Level 5. Kerryn Jansen gained third place overall and third place on the beam in the Level 2 Division C Grade. Rylie Saywell placed first on the bar in Level 2 Division B.
