New recruit, Haylee Bloemen, is Stratford's youngest volunteer ambulance officer, and she is looking forward to the challenges and scenarios that she will be faced with while on duty.

The 22-year-old is training to be a nurse and responded to a call for more volunteers in the Stratford area, hoping to broaden her skills and give her more on-the-job experience. "It is a good opportunity to keep my skills up and introduce me to different situations. I enjoy helping people and want to make them comfortable during the transition from scene to hospital," she said.

Haylee had her first observational shift a fortnight ago, and will spend a few more shifts watching, in preparation for a two-day training course and a driving course.
