Album review: Kora, Light years

Kora is simply breath-taking
Kora is simply breath-taking

First out of the blocks for the forthcoming feast of summer sounds are the Kora brothers Laughton, Francis, Stuart and Brad and brother-in-arms Dan McGruer, originally hailing from Whakatane. It's been four years since their last album which set the benchmark for cool R&B; sounds.

This album will not let down fans. Light Years ventures into heavy bass lines married with high-tech synthesisers and live and sampled drums. Into this heady mix is the otherworldly four-part harmonies of the Kora brothers. This powerful groove displays different personalities as well as showcasing influences from electronic dance music and electro-funk to classic 80s pop, creating a distinctive sound. One word: breathtaking.
