STRATFORD’S Positive Ageing Group has now become a well-established group in the community, helping locals understanding and learn about options available to them as they age.
By holding information forums locals in the past have learnt about Vaccinations, Respiratory Care, In Hospital Care, Rest Home care, At Home services, Investment care and management, WINZ entitlements, Budgeting Advice, Rates Rebates, Emergency Preparedness, Power of Attorney, Funeral Arrangements, Elder Abuse & Neglect plus more.
The group was formed after locals asked for a voice to be created in need of the town’s ageing population.
Organised by a committee, with Brick Mathieson as current chairman the group is striving along.
They regularly hold mobility scooter training session with the support of Road Safe Taranaki.
They also organise a Greats and Grands Competition, which is a competition where they ask young people to write a poem or a story telling us why their Grandparent is so special to them.  There are prizes to be won and we encourage all those who enter to bring their grandparent to a morning tea on International Day of the Older Person on October 1.
So kids start thinking or why your grand is special and recognize them this October. For more information please contact Brick or the Stratford District Council on 765 6099.
