THE Stratford Mountain House will be up and running again for guests and diners in about three months time.
The new owners, Ngati Ruanui Holdings, took over the building on June 18, and this week chairperson Debbie Ngarewa-Packer said they are on track to return the lodge to its former days of splendour, famous for its hospitality and good food.
“We have a new business manager and are working through designs, plans and menus to open again for business,” she said.
“Depending on the Stratford District Council planning process and the weather we should be open for business this October or November.”
She said there will be no major changes to the building and the name of the historic lodge will remain the same.
“We will be opening up the front of the building to make it more accessible for the public, especially for people with special needs, and we are also updating the kitchen and bar.”
The company is also having regular meetings with the Department of Conservation.
A special opening is planned when the work is finished.
