TIM is looking forward to Valentine’s weekend this year. He’s a nice-looking boy, a little rough around the edges but nothing a little TLC won’t fix. And Rosie’s a sweet girl, a little shy but loves a bit of a scratch behind the ears.
They, like hundreds of other animals at SPCA centres across the country, will be dressed to impress and hoping to meet the loves of their lives during the annual Second Chance for Love Adopt-a-thon this Valentine’s weekend.
Last year twenty SPCA centres participated in the first-ever Second Chance for Love event, with over 500 lucky animals finding their forever homes. This year, nearly thirty SPCA’s will play matchmaker, with the aim of finding soul mates for even more animals – in Taranaki, head on up to the New Plymouth SPCA to join in the fun.
SPCA National Chief Executive Robyn Kippenberger says, “With more branches participating this year, and help from the public, I am sure we can double last year’s total and find families for 1,000 animals. I would encourage anyone thinking of adopting a pet to take this opportunity to visit our centres and find their perfect match.”
And Second Chance for Love isn’t just for the animals – people will have fun too.
