INGLEWOOD High School’s ball on Saturday, July 24 was a great success with students and teachers all having a great time.
The night began with a few private pre-ball functions where the excitement brewed, the compliments flew, and many, many photos were taken.
“It was very exciting and everyone couldn’t stop talking about the ball on Friday the day before the ball,” said student Melanie Moss.
The ball began at 8pm and, upon approaching the entranceway, it was obvious the school hall had been transformed and was barely recognisable.
The smoke machines were going, the hall was fancy, and the students looked truly spectacular.
Upon entering the hall, each student and partner was greeted by the principal, Mrs Rosy Maben, her husband, and the chairman of the board, Mel Gibson where the students introduced themselves and their partners.
The full beauty of the decorations in the hall was then apparent and there were a number of tables at the back of the hall, all supporting a beautiful flower arrangement. A live band was playing on the stage, and amazing Greek-themed lighting surrounded the hall.
Many students then disappeared to the staff room for professional photos. Other students were greeted by waitresses dressed in togas, and asked if they would like a drink.
Many parents had come to watch the first five minutes of the ball and were crowded into a small viewing area.
The first dance began at around 8.15pm and students and teachers alike enjoyed a waltz.
The night was from then on filled with dances such as the Gay Gordon, Snowball Waltz and Monte Carlo Waltz, followed by more modern dances to modern music.
A few of the girls decided to ditch their shoes after the first couple of dances, to relieve their sore feet.
Later in the night finger food, including sandwiches, sausage rolls and mini-pies, was brought out, followed by chocolate fondue.

This attracted quite a crowd.
Votes for king, queen, prince and princess had been going throughout the night. These were counted up and announced after a dramatic drum roll around 11pm.
Kyle Dravitski won Prince, Asia-Leigh Richards won Princess, Brent Stevens won King and Kaycee Marshall won Queen. They were all presented with a crown on the stage accompanied by cheering and wolf whistling.
The ball was then starting to slow down with more people sitting down than dancing, so things were livened up again by the band starting The Chicken Dance, many people were too embarrassed to join in, but the ones that did seemed to have a lot of fun.
It was by then round about 12pm where things were finished of neatly with the final waltz.
